ファッション・ガールの夢を叶えるメット・ガラ。

メット・ガラに出席するということはファッションを愛する女の子の夢ではないでしょうか。他の人たちは遠くに住んで、最愛のパートナーに出会うことを望むかもしれないけれど、私は違います。 私はNYという、私を育ててくれた街にあるメトロポリタン美術館の有名な階段を登る自分をいつも思い描いてきました。昨年、この夢は実現し、私が望んでいたもの、いえ、それ以上の体験ができました。私はメット・ガラ史上初のタイ人の招待客で、母国とタイ人という人種をピータ・ドゥンダスの素晴らしいドレスガウンを纏い、代表できたことをとても光栄に思います。

この日を超えることは難しいと思いましたが、それは今年も招待されるまででした！ まさかメット・ガラに複数回よばれるなんて夢にも思いませんでしたから。今、私はメット・ガラのドレスのフィッティングのため、バンコクに戻る途中で、勇ましくパソコンのキーボードを叩きつつこの原稿を書いています。昨年出し切った感がありましたが、今思えば、それは今年とは比べものになりませんでした。

It’s every fashion girl’s dream to one day attend Met Gala. Others might dream of moving to a far away place, meeting the partner of their dreams, but not me. I grew up picturing the moment when I ascend the iconic steps of the Metropolitan Museum of Art in the city that made me, New York. Last year, this dream of mine became a reality and it was everything I dreamed and more. I was the first Thai person to be invited to Met Gala and was proud to represent my country and people in a stunning Peter Dundas gown.

I didn’t think it’d be possible to top that night, until I was invited back this year! Never in my wildest dreams did I see myself attending Met Gala multiple times. Yet here I am, typing away furiously on my laptop on my way back to Bangkok from a fitting for my Met dress. I thought I went all out last year, but that was nothing compared to this.

夢のドレスを作成する完璧なパートナーとは？

メット・ガラに出席したことがある人は、その日着用するドレスのために何ヶ月もの準備期間が必要なことを知ってい流でしょう。 この冬、私はあらゆるファッション・ウィークで私のためにガウンを作成してくれる最高のデザイナーを探していました。そして2月のNYコレクションでトモ コイズミ（TOMO KOIZUMI）のショーに出席した際に、私が求めていたものを見つけました。何としてでも彼のルックを着たいと思ったのです。 彼は最終的にNYコレクションで時の人となり、今ファッション業界でもっとも注目されるデザイナーの一人となりました。

Everyone who has been to Met Gala knows that it takes months of preparation to put your look together. This past fall I spent all of fashion month scouring the runways for the perfect designer to create my gown. As soon as I sat down at Tomo Koizumi’s show at NYFW I knew I had found the one. Whatever it took, I just had to work with this designer. He ended up being the breakout hit of NYFW and is now one of the most in demand new designers on the scene.

頭を過ぎる一抹の不安。

ショーの日の夜、NYの業界人たちの御用達レストランのバルサザールで彼に会い、気づいたらその近くに会った私の友人のアパートメントでフィッティングをしていました。 アイデアを話し合い、彼は私に最高のドレスのイメージがあると話してくれました。

ただ、彼がそのドレスのスケッチを見せてくれたときは、正直にいうと不安を禁じえませんでした。頭の中で、「私はこのドレスを着るには少し太めだし、身長も足りないわ…」と。トモにこのことを伝えたところ、彼はありのままの私を美しいと、そして素晴らしいデザイナーというのは、トップモデルだけでなく、あらゆる人のために洋服を作れるのだと言ってくれました。彼を最初は信じられませんでしたが、今はそうしてよかったと心から思っています。

I met Tomo later that night at Balthazar and the next thing I knew we were doing a fitting at my friend's apartment around the corner. We had discussed ideas and he told me he had the perfect dress in mind for me. When he showed me the sketch, I have to admit I was worried. In my head I thought, “I’m not skinny enough, I’m not tall enough”. I voiced my concerns to Tomo and he shushed the evil voices in my head. He told me I was beautiful the way I was and a great designer can dress anyone, not just the top models. As hard as it was to believe him, I’m so glad I did.

トモ コイズミというデザイナー。

私は日本でのフィッティングができるようスケジュールを調整し、来日してすぐに彼は私の滞在していたホテルに来てくれました。トモは私が個人的に知る中でもっとも優しく、ハードワーカーな人の一人です。彼のクリエーションは目を見張るもので、ユニークで、アイキャッチーで、私がメット・ガラ用に求めていたもののすべてが詰まっていました。最終的なフィッティングを私のNYのアパートメントでするのが待ちきれず、その前日は興奮のあまりほとんど眠ることができませんでした。彼が私の家にいるという不思議な感覚で、一生忘れることはないでしょう。

As soon as I could get on a flight I flew to Japan, where he met me in my hotel for another fitting. Tomo is one of kindest, most hardworking people I’ve had the pleasure to get to know on a personal level. His creations are unbelievable, unique, eye-catching - really just everything I was looking for in a Met dress.I couldn't wait for our fitting at my apartment in New York; I was so excited I could barely sleep. Having Tomo in my home was surreal and an experience I'll never forget.

この数ヶ月間、私は日に２回ワークアウトし、サラダを食べ、フェイシャルエステをし、ドレスに似合う自分になるよう頑張りました。かなり値がはるネイルチップも日本で作りましたが、それも含め全てが必要事項でした。なぜかというと私のドレスはとてもカラフルで、ルックを完成させるために、その他のアイテムをどうするかとても悩ましかったからです。ヘアスタイルやジュエリーはシンプルに抑えるべきか、それとも派手に行くべきか？ あらゆるディテールに注ぐ細心の注意と時間が必要で、ルックを完成させるには、いつもとてつもなく時間がかかります。

I've spent the past few months working out two times a day, eating salads, and getting facials in order to absolutely kill my look. I got matching tips in Japan that cost me a fortune, but all of this will be worth it. Because my dress is so colorful, it was hard to decide what to do with the rest of the look. Do I keep hair and jewelry simple or do I go all out? So much time and effort goes into every little detail and finalizing it always takes me forever.

ドキドキのメット・ガラ当日まで。

メットを数日前に控え、色々と準備を整え始めました。メット・ガラ出席者の大半が滞在するというザ カーライル ホテルに私も部屋を予約しました。ここのホテルのあらゆる一角にフォトグラファーたちが待ち構えていて、その喧騒や興奮の渦を感じたり、ロビーや上階に行く際に古い友人たちに会ったりするのはいつも楽しいものです。

With Met only a few days away, I'm scrambling to tie up all lose ends. I have my room booked at the Carlyle, where most of the attendees stay every year. It's so fun to be around all of the hype and excitement with photographers stationed at every corner. It's always great to bump into old friends running through the lobby or heading upstairs.

メトロポリタン美術館の階段を、夢のドレスで登るというほど気分が高揚するものはありません、そしてまたその気持ちを体験できる日をとても楽しみにしています！

There's really no feeling like climbing the Met steps in the dress of your dreams, and I can’t wait to experience it again!
